Poetry Town Hall
Saturday, September 3rd.
BRIO winners for poetry José Olivárez and Peggy Robles-Alvarado will launch the fall Poetry Town Hall Tour series at the Bronx Zoo.
They’ll read their award-winning bilingual poetry, which addresses immigrant and second-generation perspectives through Puerto Rican, Mexican – and Dominican-American points of view.
They’ll also address the state of the diversifying Latino community in the Bronx, from its mid-20th Century Puerto Rican roots, to its contemporary Dominican and Mexican development, and will be joined by program adviser and Bronx Writers Center Director Charlie Vázquez.
A moderated town hall discussion on contemporary Latino culture and writing in the Bronx will follow, culminating with a Q&A with attendees.
